Jacob Dresner collection, 1850-1980.

This collection consists of family papers of Jacob Dresner and his brother Joseph Dresner; and additionally, papers of Frances, Jean and Kate Gordon. The New Orleans, La., law partnership of Jacob and Mayer Dresner handled the legal affairs of the Gordon sisters. Dresner family papers include correspondence, genealogical documents such as nineteenth-century birth records, newspaper clippings, family and other group photographs, certificates, announcements, invitations, prayers, diaries, and other writings. Gordon papers primarily pertain to the settlement of the estates of Frances R. Gordon (d. 1939), Jean Gordon (d. 1931), and Kate Gordon (d. 1932). These include estate inventories, financial documents, a photograph, printed material and correspondence.

Jacob Dresner (1883-1976) and Joseph Dresner (1885-1967) were natives of Przemsyl, Austria. Their parents were Helen Glass and Henry Dresner; the family emigrated to New Orleans in the late nineteenth century. Jacob Dresner graduated from New Orleans Boys High School in 1900 and Tulane University Law School in 1906, and practiced law in New Orleans. Joseph Dresner graduated from New Orleans Boys High School in 1902, studied business at Tulane University, and was active in the development of loca...
